How do you know when you have an emergency?

Sometimes it may seem hard to know exactly when something’s an emergency. If you’ve got any doubts at all, please contact Richardson Implant and Dentistry for expert guidance and support.

There are a few situations that undoubtedly qualify as dental emergencies, so if you experience any of these, please take it seriously and call the office immediately.

  • Broken tooth
  • Knocked out tooth
  • Cracked tooth
  • Serious bleeding that doesn’t abate quickly
  • Extreme mouth or jaw pain
  • Loose filling
  • Dislodged crown or veneer
  • Loose dental bridge
  • Severe swelling in the mouth or jaw

How should you handle a knocked out tooth?

A knocked out tooth is one of the most common dental emergencies, and it’s imperative to handle it carefully. Wash your hands before you pick up the tooth, and handle it by the crown rather than the roots. The teeth’s roots are living tissue that you can place back in the mouth if you act fast enough.

If you can, put the tooth back into the socket, holding it gently in place with your tongue if possible. If you can’t get the tooth to stay in the socket, you should drop it into a cup of vitamin D milk. This kind of milk has preservatives that can keep the teeth roots alive until you arrive at Richardson Implant and Dentistry (try to arrive within an hour or less).

Need help in a hurry? Richardson Implant and Dentistry is here to help with dental emergencies of all types. Contact the office as soon as your dental emergency happens so Dr. Mikkilineni can take care of the problem quickly and efficiently.
